Chapter 2

Chapter 2:

"Hello there," John said as the lady from the truck slowed her steps. "Um, I am really sorry about the cell phone. I promise that I will pay for your windshield."

Bailee didn't say anything, but decided to just stand a few feet away from the man. Now closer to him, she thought that she recognized him, but she couldn't place where she had seen him. His voice also sounded very familiar to her.

There was a long pause between the two of them as they each sized up the other. It was finally Bailee that interrupted the silence.

"You know, throwing your cell phone out onto the highway can get very expensive.
"Yes, Im sure it can, I really didn't mean to hit your car, I was just upset with my car," said John, putting on his best smile.

Bailee glanced over to the still smoking rental car just feet away. She could tell that the car wasn't going anywhere any time soon.

She was very tempted to just turn around get in her truck and leave the guy to stand by the side of the road with his dead car. But even as the thought came to her mind she knew that she wouldn't do it. Even though this guy had killed he windshield, she was still going to help him. But that didn't mean that he wasn't going to pay to get things fixed.

"Wait here,"said Bailee as she headed towards her truck to get her cell phone and call her dad, who owned a towing and wrecking company to come out here and take care of everything.

As he watched her walk back towards her vehicle, John couldn't help but check out the retreating woman. She was quite nice looking, with nice hair and a definite style all her own. She seemed to be quite independent and a woman that could take care of herself. If they had met differently, maybe he would have asked her out for a drink.

Lost in his thoughts, John didn't realize that Bailee had returned until she was standing in front of him.

"Oh, Im sorry. Did you say something?"

"No I didn't. My dad is on his way over here."

"OH. Is that really necessary. Cant we just deal with this between ourselves? I mean, I know that you're probably really mad but that doesn't mean that...."

"No no no. My dad has a tow truck to come and get your car and take it back to the shop," said Bailee, feeling a hint of satisfaction in seeing the man frightened.

"Oh. OH, well that is very nice of you. I don't know what to say."

"As long as you promise to get help for your addiction of throwing cell phones so that no one else gets their property hurt, I think that will be enough."

"You got it."

The Adventures of John and Bailee: Chapter 1

The Adventures
of
John and Bailee
Chapter 1:
When Cell Phones Attack

“Shit! Damn piece of crap car!”

John Cusack stood to the side of his rental car while white smoke poured out of the hood. John had decided to rent the car when work had become too stressful for him. He wasn’t getting along with his producer, the script was terrible and he hated his costar already. Add to all this the resent stalker incident, and life was looking pretty grim.

“Why can’t anything work for me?” John screamed out loud as he kicked the wheel of the car, causing him to curse as he stubbed his toe.

Reaching into his pocket, he took out a cigarette and lit it. He had just decided to quit smoking when his life fell apart and the first thing he did, was go back to his old friend. He thought to himself that he probably shouldn’t have bought every cigarette in the store he went to, but he couldn’t help himself.

Taking his cell phone out of the car he saw that he had no signal. It looked like the day was just going to get better and better.

“Ah ah ah ah stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive. Ah ah ah AHHHH! Shit!”

Bailee slammed on her brakes, trying to avoid the cell phone that had just hit her windshield.

Coming to a screeching halt, Bailee gathered her bearings and looked at the car located just behind her on the side of the road, through her rearview mirror. The man standing next to the car seemed to be stunned by what had just happened. Then he started jumping up and down, screaming at the top of his lungs about how that world was evil and everything was out to get him.

Normally Bailee would have left a man as crazy a this alone, but seeing the state of her shattered windshield, she decided that this man needed to be given a piece of her mind, crazy or not.

Grabbing the first thing she saw that could do some damage, a tennis racquet, Bailee got out of her car and walked towards the ranting man.

He couldn’t believe this was happening. Here he was in the middle of nowhere with a broke down car, and now he had just thrown his cell phone onto the windshield of a passing vehicle. And now said driver of passing vehicle was headed his way wielding… a tennis racquet? What was this, the Wimbledon version of “Deliverance” john thought, slightly staining his ears for the sound of banjos playing in the distance.

Straightening his disheveled clothes, John put on what he hoped was a charming smile. Maybe he could get out of this alive. He was an actor after all, he could surely act his way out of this situation. And if not, money always talked.

Bailee saw the man calm down as she came closer. She didn’t recognize him as being someone from town.

As she got closer she started to take in the mans features. He was tall with dark hair that stuck up in every direction. He was slim, maybe too slim if you asked her, Bailee thought. His pants and shoes were covered in the dust from the road, probably from all that jumping around he had been doing. He didn’t have anything in his hands and he didn’t seem like the type to have a weapon. Then again, he had done plenty of damage with just his cell phone.

This would be interesting.
